The more things change, the more they stay the same
Yeah, it's been almost 2 years since my last update. I can't promise that won't happen again, but I've a got a little time set aside right now, and a ton of opinions on current world events and what have you.
I don't have a lot of inclination to share, except for this little tidbit I thought was pretty amusing. About 6 months ago I decided to pick up some reading. Old books that I've always meant to finish and dissect for myself and understand or something. So I start reading, and I come across this . ..
"GRAND CONTESTED ELECTION FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES. 'WHALING VOYAGE BY ONE ISHMAEL.' BLOODY BATTLE IN AFFGHANISTAN"
Well, THAT'S not what I expected to come across. The line about whaling and Ishmael should probably tip you off that I was reading "Moby Dick". Now think back to 6 months ago, when the election was even more of a mess, and Afghanistan has been a mess . .. well .. .. actually . ..
That's kinda the whole point actually. Afghanistan has been a mess since Moby Dick was written? And the grand contested elections for the Presidency of this county have been dramatic forever also. Why is it that we seem to get lost in our own little worlds over and over again believing that for some reason our experience is somehow original? The human experience seems to be more filled with variations on the same themes over again. Sometimes the tools or instruments change a little (electricity, computers, lasers), but the major themes never really change (food, clothing, shelter, whales).
Is that really a bad thing? Or is it just . .. . is? I don't know.
I do know that I've tried to start exercising again, and now my body is very angry with me. People say that exercise makes you feel better, need less sleep, and be stronger and healthier. That may be true eventually, but if you're just getting started after taking waaaaay to long off, it just sucks. And all of my bodily systems have a beef with me right now. I'm trying to avoid getting sick, I get headaches for 2 days, I need MORE sleep, not less, and my hair is actually developing new colics that have never been there before. That could just be due to age though.
Hmm, getting older. There's another thing that's never changed, but sure does feel like a new experience while it's happening to you!
And speaking of getting old and tired, here's a picture of me in case you've forgotten what I or my younger son looks like.
