And so it goes

Have you ever heard of Landau-Kleffner syndrome?

I know I never had. Apparently very few people have, since a search on the subject will yield very litte in terms of details, diagnosis, causes, and how to treat the thing. But unfortunately, this seems to be the most likely thing that is afflicting my younger son. We're still not positive, and the neurologist isn't convinced either, but it's all we have to go with based on what we've seen so far, and we're treating it with anti-seizure medicine. After 3 weeks of this medicine, he SEEMS to be sleeping a little better, and seems to have a little more focus in day-to-day tasks, which is encouraging.

What's not so encouraging is how loopy he gets a little after taking his medicine, and how his left eye seems to occasionally droop. I'll see if I can show you what I mean.

Here's a shot of him while he was taking a 24-hour EEG. He had these diodes on his head for a whole day getting readings, and the only abnormality it found was some irregular readings in his left temporal lobe while he was sleeping.

Now, here's another shot of him just smiling -

And lastly, a shot of him at his brother's birthday party -

Well, it's not as easy to spot in pictures as I thought. But when you're with him in real life it's easier to spot when it happens, and there's no rhyme or reason or pattern as to when, where, how that eye starts to get droopy. But it certainly is disturbing.
