And now something from the Doublespeak department

This was an interesting thing to follow.

Canada's National Post prints a story that Iranian law will be forcing non-Muslims to adhere to a certain dress code to easily identify them, and then retracts the story.

When I hear about a person or an organization doing something, I tend to think, "What was their motivation?" I'm having a difficult time identifying what could have motivated Canada's National Post to print this story in the first place. It was pretty well written, which means it probably involved more than 1 reporter and at least 1 editor, and it still went to print? Why? How? What did someone have to gain from this?

I don't like where my answers are taking me. Someone has something to GAIN by making up false and inflammatory stories about Iran (the TRUE stories are concerning enough!).

I just thought I'd share my worries with the world. Now we can all sleep a little less soundly tonight. :)

It is a pro-Israel paper (for the most part) ... but most Canadian media was on this story, BUT they were pretty careful in saying that it was "early reports indicate".

United States media were covering it as well they just got rid of it and hid it faster :)

Interesting. The author is Iranian-born and is an established columnist for the New York Post and numerous other publications (http://www.benadorassociates.com/taheri.php), and the story from the Canadian paper was apparently reprinted in yesterday's New York Post. So far there's nothing on Snopes.com about the story or its factual bases (I always check there when I encounter news stories that seem a bit suspish), but maybe in a couple of days that will change. I think it may be a bit early to speculate one way or the other on the veracity of the story. On the one hand it does seem outrageous and inflammatory; on the other hand, the writer is a well-respected international journalist with what appears to be heavy duty street cred. Whatever the case, I can appreciate your concerns.

Hi, BTW. ;-)

Hi guys! I KNEW that all I had to do was mention the word 'Canada' here and I'd finally get Ryan to comment! :) Nice to see you bud!

And welcome to my old friend and catalyst Channa! THIS could be interesting.
